Walking Coast to Coast for Cerebral Palsy Research

I’m raising funds and awareness for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation to help advance medical research and assistive technology innovation, creating a world that is more accessible and inclusive for people with cerebral palsy (CP) and other disabilities.

This fundraiser is especially personal to me because I have cerebral palsy myself, and it is something that affects my daily life. Growing up, I was fortunate to have access to support, therapies, and opportunities that helped me learn, grow, and live confidently with a disability. Physical therapy has been a major part of my life, and through programs like CP soccer, I’ve been able to meet other people with disabilities, challenge myself physically, and build confidence. Experiences like those inspired me to want to give back and help create more opportunities and better support systems for other kids growing up with CP.

This summer, my dad and I will be taking on the Coast to Coast Walk, a 200-mile journey across England over two weeks. The Coast to Coast Walk, designed by Alfred Wainwright, typically starts in the west at St Bees in Cumbria and finishes in the east at Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire. I wanted to connect my English culture and background with something I care deeply about: raising awareness and support for the CP community.

I’ve worked with CPRF and Steptember for many years, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to support a cause that means so much to me personally. My goal is to raise $4,000, which works out to $20 for every mile I walk. Along the journey, I’ll be posting updates, photos, and progress from the walk here and on Instagram.

Cerebral palsy is the most common lifelong physical disability in the world, affecting more than 18 million people. CP impacts everyone differently and can affect movement, speech, learning, and everyday activities. Research into CP doesn’t just help people with CP — it also leads to advancements in technology, treatments, and care that improve the lives of many people with disabilities.

Your support can help fund:

  • Early Detection & Intervention: Supporting research to detect CP early and improve lifelong outcomes for babies.

  • Chronic Pain Research: Advancing treatments to prevent and manage chronic pain.

  • Genomics: Unlocking genetic insights to develop targeted therapies.

  • Regenerative Medicine: Driving breakthroughs to repair the brain and restore function.

  • Technology & Innovation: Funding affordable assistive technology that promotes independence and inclusion.

Any contribution, big or small, truly makes a difference. Thank you so much for supporting me, supporting this journey, and helping redefine what is possible for people with CP and other disabilities.

Good luck Harvey. Make your dad walk - don’t let him make you carry him. Although I’m sure you are strong enough.
