Harper’s Fight: My Miles

By Shelby Cavender

Help me make a difference for CP research!

This fall, I’m running the Sleeping Bear Dunes Marathon in support of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation-funding medical research and assistive technology innovation to build a more accessible, inclusive world for my daughter Harper and millions of others living with cerebral palsy.

Harper is pure joy. She is strength in the smallest, most determined body. But what many don’t see is how hard she works for things others never have to think about. Every movement takes focus. Every new skill takes patience, repetition, and incredible courage. And still, she smiles. She keeps going.

I haven’t run since having two babies. My body is different. Life is fuller. Louder. MUCH Busier. But I cannot wait to chase down this start line and crush this goal because if Harper can show up to her challenges every single day, so can I.

As her mom, there are moments I wish I could carry the hard for her. I wish I could give her effortless movement. I wish the world were already built with her in mind. Since I can’t, I run.

I run for better therapies. For smarter assistive technology. For earlier interventions. For innovation that reduces pain and increases independence. I run because progress is powered by research and research is powered by people who care.

26.2 will hurt. I’ll be exhausted. But it is nothing compared to the quiet, daily strength Harper shows without hesitation.

Every mile is for her future…one with more access, more independence, and more possibility.

If you feel moved to give, thank you for standing with Harper and helping push this world forward. 💛

Thank you all so much!
