Strides 4 Gianluca is raising funds and awareness for Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation (CPARF) to move cerebral palsy research and disability innovation forward by running the 2024 Philadelphia Marathon. Every mile counts so we’re aiming for $2,620.
Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common lifelong physical disability in the world, affecting 18 million people of all ages, with 33 babies diagnosed with CP every day in the US.
Even though it’s so common, CP doesn’t get the attention or funding it deserves. Your generosity will change that.
Any contribution you make will make a difference. Your gift will support:
- Studies focused on unlocking movement for people with CP — from holding their head up for the first time to taking steps in ways they never have before.
- Technology that makes it easier for people with CP to grasp and grip items they need.
- Research into the chronic pain that affects 14.5 million people with CP.
- Innovation that makes it possible for people with CP to access and control their personal technology with voice commands, facial expressions, body gestures, and more.

Every mile matters
Friday 1st Nov Marathon training is brutal but if you have a purpose it is easier. If you have a WHY everything falls in line and gets you through the miles. A few years ago I was ready to just give up on running all together but today it has become my escape. When my son Gianluca got his CP diagnosis things in life started to become clearer to me. As I watched this child go through physical therapy, occupational therapy, MRIs, Botox injections, serial casting, bracing and a bunch more that became part of his regular routine I thought to myself that this kid has more resilience than any adult I’ve ever met. If he can stick with it so can I. He puts in the work and I can do the same and will continue to do so. As long as he’s putting one foot in front of the other so will I. Through all this he has taught me we don’t give up. We fight and we overcome with whatever is thrown at us. Every day I reflect on who is really teaching who. I may have taught him his ABCs but he’s taught me determination and that’s when I realized it’s become a partnership of learning. He has taught me that the finish line looks different for many people but we all need that courage to step up to the starting line. He’s been on that starting line since day one. I don’t know what his finish line will look like but I’ll be there every step of the way to help him and in turn it will help me learn something new. He amazes me every day and keeps knocking down obstacles in his way. He just puts one foot in front of the other and that’s what I’ll keep doing when those long miles become tough.
